Spoofhounds open season vs. defending Class 2 champ

The high school football season kicks off Friday night across the state of Missouri, and the opening week offers up a big time Class 2 matchup between Maryville and Blair Oaks.

The Spoofhounds beat the Falcons on the road two years ago, and went on to win a state championship. Last year, the Blair Oaks beat Maryville 38-35 in the season opener and went on to win the Class 2 title.

Head coach Matt Webb said his team is excited to get another shot at the Falcons after a slow start one year ago.

"We're ready for Blair Oaks. They're going to be extremely competitive. They graduated some really good players, we graduated some really good players. We just have a lot of respect for them and Coach (Ted) LePage and the way they run their program. It's two heavy weights week one and that's what's unique about it."

In 2018, both Maryville losses came to eventual state champions – Blair Oaks in week one and Trinity Catholic in the state semifinal game.

Kickoff is set for 7pm Friday from William Jewell College in Liberty.
